I delivered my new half-day in person workshop for the third year Screenwriting students at the University of Chichester.
The aim was to provide key essentials to help them feel, look and sound their best as part of their preparation for networking and marketing their work within their future industry.
Students were asked to consider:
🌟To what extent were the course objectives achieved?
🌟Comments on the trainer Philippa’s knowledge, expertise, delivery style etc?
🌟The most useful part of the workshop for them
🌟How they will use the new knowledge skills and mindsets in future
And any further responses.
“Mostly just knew public speaking as something people are scared of, but now know it’s a skill and know more about how to be a better speaker.
Good knowledge – again I saw it as something of a ‘talent’ that some people are just naturally better, but now understand it’s practise.
(Most useful) Learning tips / techniques to make it easier, reviewing elevator pictures, tongue twisters, realising everyone has basically the same fears.
(Will use) For pitches and assessments.
Really enjoyed and found very useful.”
Holly, University of Chichester
“Very clear concise without bias and with consideration to everyone individually.
(Most useful) Pictures of Power.
(I will) Apply the new techniques to everything I do in terms of pitching.
Enjoyed the standing up and doing things exercises.
Josh, University of Chichester
“It helped me with my confidence.
[Philippa] Very knowledgeable and insightful.
(Most useful) The Lighthouse, body language, gesture.”
Thomas, University of Chichester
“The objectives were achieved and I feel a lot more knowledgeable about pitching and public speaking now.
My trainer was good. She was knowledgeable, friendly and kept my attention.
The most useful part for me was the part on building the Virtual Brand.
Moving forwards I can prepare more effectively for public speaking thanks to the techniques taught.”
Xander, University of Chichester
“Course was helpful and I feel I have a better understanding of how to present.
My trainer seems to have a wide variety of knowledge which was helpful.
(Most useful) Learning how to produce my voice.
We have various pitching sections where this knowledge will be useful.”
Storme, University of Chichester
“Really well.
The course was engaging and well thought out.
Learning how to make small improvements like altering body language and preparing how to end a presentation.
(I’ll use) In public speaking and interviews.”
Celeste, University of Chichester
“High extent – a variety was covered.
Very confidently delivered, made us feel at ease.
(Most useful) The group discussions / demonstrations.
(I will) Make sure I’m aware of my visual presentation in future (ie how I stand) and make sure I look at everyone in the audience.
Grace, University of Chichester
“Great knowledge that was clearly demonstrated in a well clear manner. Felt comfortable speaking up and getting involved.
Body language tips and lots of exercises for us to put them to the test. Also breathing techniques and dealing with the adrenaline rush.
Incorporate body language when I pitch lots of breathing stuff for keeping myself calm.
Very nice speaker.”
Lily, University of Chichester
